Responsibilities: Receives supervision and direction from the Public Works Director or designee. Performs various inspections to ensure compliance with the City’s Wastewater Pretreatment Program. Collects representative samples of wastewater and water from industrial, commercial, and institutional sources, from various interceptors, city and storm sewer, and from areas such as the Nogales Wash. Observes and records field conditions, flow meter reading, field test results, and other data relevant to sampling conditions. Performs a variety of physical, chemical, biological, and bacteriological tests on the samples collected. Prepares a variety of written, oral, tabular, and graphic reports, which often require calculations. Prepares notices of requirements and violations of applicable regulations. Prepares data for entry into data processing systems. Contacts industrial, commercial, and institutional accounts to obtain access, observe procedures, obtain samples, and investigate complaints. Explains the City’s Pretreatment Program to industry and institutional representatives, persons from other agencies and the public. Explains procedures and policies related to discharge permits, monitoring, charge enforcement, etc. Responds to emergencies. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal safety requirements and regulations. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education, Certification and Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Arizona Driver’s License AND AZ Wastewater Collection Grade 3 Certification.
Preferred Qualifications: Spanish language fluency. Experience in municipal pretreatment enforcement and safety regulations. AZ Wastewater Treatment Grade 2 Certification.
