Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Truck Driver – Wastewater Department

Responsibilities: Receives general supervision from the Public Works Director, Wastewater Supervisor, Water Supervisor, or designee. Operates a variety of light and heavy vehicles and equipment in the maintenance and repair of street, water and sewer lines, recreation and parks projects, hauling and unloading of equipment, materials and supplies, and other public works activities. Operates construction or power equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, and hydraulic excavators. Works with and assists line crews with digging ditches and trenches; hoisting material, tools, and equipment and vehicles; and other related activities. Performs general maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Ensures safety rules and regulations are followed. Performs cleaning and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant. Washes and vacuums sewer lines. Installs, operates, repairs, and maintains drainage lines and manholes; performs manhole fumigation. Works with and assists water crews with the repair and maintenance of water mains, valves, services, meters, fire hydrants, and other water supply. Responds to emergency calls regarding water quality, pressure, and leaks. Documents and communicates any discrepancies or concerns to supervisor(s). Sets up traffic control. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education, Certifications and Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent AND one (1) year of heavy equipment and large vehicle operation OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Arizona State Class B Commercial Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Heavy Equipment including backhoes, bob-tails, front-end loaders, and hydraulic excavators. Spanish language fluency.
