Over the weekend, an additional 4 COVID-19 cases were identified. Today, 3 more cases were reported by Santa Cruz County Health Service. The total number of reported COVID-19 cases in Santa Cruz County currently stands at 23. Since Friday, this is a 44% increase in confirmed cases in Santa Cruz County. Of the 7 cases identified since Friday, 2 have been travel related and 5 are community spread.
7 of the last 10 confirmed cases in the county appear to be community spread.The recent spike in cases in Santa Cruz County is consistent with projections for the State. Health officials projected a late April peak in COVID-19 cases in Arizona. To ensure it is a peak and not just a spike, the City of Nogales is encouraging residents to take all precautions to help flatten the curve. The substantial increase over such a short period of time demonstrates that Santa Cruz County is not immune to the pandemic. It is critical that residents continue to practice CDC recommended social distancing, frequent handwashing, and staying home. The City is encouraging neighbors to help neighbors by staying home and staying safe.
