Today, Santa Cruz County informed the City of Nogales of another confirmed case of COVID-19. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the county to 7. Although limited details about the 7th case are available, the case does appear to be travel-related. According to State data, 99 individuals have been tested for COVID-10 from Santa Cruz County. Across Arizona, the Arizona Department of Health Services is currently reporting 37,178 individuals tested for the virus, with 3,017 cases. Since March 30th across Arizona there has been an average daily increase of 15%, while Santa Cruz County has seen a new case each business day since last Friday. State health officials have been optimistic about the impacts of Arizonians staying home helping to flatten the curve.
The City of Nogales acquired masks and gloves for City employees. These masks and gloves are being distributed to each City department. While masks and gloves are helpful tools to flatten the curve, the City is reminding both its employees and residents that wearing masks and gloves may not prevent the individual from contracting COVID-19. Frequent handwashing and cleaning are highly encouraged as a known and effective way to fight COVID-19.
