The City of Nogales was made aware of another confirmed COVID-19 case reported to Santa Cruz County Health Services. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Santa Cruz County to 6 cases. This 6thcase is the first identified within city limits. It is also the first identified case in the county that does not appear to be the result of travel. Santa Cruz County Health Services is working to determine how the individual contracted the virus.
The recent case is the 3rd case identified in the past 3 business days. As this 6th case does not appear to be travel related, it highlights the continued need for social distancing and staying home. This is especially true for those with flu-like symptoms. If required to leave home, for an essential activity, residents are encouraged to wear cloth face coverings. Cloth face coverings, even those made from common household materials, are an additional public health measure that helps flatten the curve. The CDC reminds the public that cloth face coverings should not be placed on children under age 2, individuals with breathing trouble, unconscious or incapacitated individuals, or individuals unable to remove the mask without assistance. Surgical masks or N-95 respirators are critical supplies, and residents should reserve those for healthcare workers and first responders.
