Councilman Jose “Joe” Diaz began his term on the Nogales City Council in 2009. He was re-elected to a four year term that bagan in January 2015. Mr. Diaz has long worked for his family’s business, Diaz Auto, located in Nogales. A graduate of Nogales High School in 1971, Mr. Diaz served for 20 years in the US. Army, retiring as a Sergeant, and is a Desert Storm Combat Veteran. He received Advanced Individual Training by the US Army Military Police and the Atlantic Airline Schools of California. He has received leadership training from the National League of Cities and Town.
Councilman Diaz is currently the Commander of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Nogales Post and is a member of the American Legion. He lives in Nogales with his wife and has four children and seven grandchildren.

Arturo Garino was elected Mayor for the city of Nogales, Arizona on November 6, 2018. Garino ran with a campaign slogan, “It Is Time!”
He is one of Nogales most accomplished public servants, serving as Mayor in 2010, after previously serving as City Councilman for four years and as Vice Mayor for two years. He was a former public works director, a law enforcement officer, firefighter and most importantly a proud Vietnam Veteran from 1971-77. Currently, he is a member of the VFW Post 20166 and Art teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic School.
Throughout his entire career, Mayor Garino has led Nogales on numerous complex issues, including earning a reputation for confronting problems and delivering results through consensus decision-building. He is a relentless advocate for all Nogalians.
But there is much more to do, and Mayor Garino has pledged to work tirelessly to make Nogales a safe and clean place to live. This also includes having a sound transparent, and responsible government with an open door policy, an improved economy, bringing more job opportunities to create a business-friendly community, revitalize our historic downtown district and lastly, invest more on street paving, infrastructure projects and recreational areas for all.
Mayor Garino graduated from Nogales High School in 1971. He and his lovely wife Cathy, care for rescued cats and dogs.
