Responsibilities: Receives general supervision from the Public Works Director, Utilities Superintendent, Sanitation Supervisor, or designee. Operates a variety of light and heavy vehicles and equipment in the maintenance and repair of street, water and sewer lines, recreation and parks projects, hauling and unloading of equipment, materials and supplies, and other public works activities. Operates a dump truck as required in municipal construction projects, may be required to participate in other maintenance and repair tasks when not operating vehicles. Performs general maintenance of vehicles and equipment. Ensures safety rules and regulations are followed. Operates street sweeper, power rollers, garbage trucks, dump trucks, backhoe, paving machines, trenchers, front-end loaders in the excavation and backfilling of trenches and other needed heavy equipment and vehicles. Operates compactors, concrete mixers, pneumatic hammers, and air compressors. Works with and assists line crews with digging ditches and trenches; hoisting material, tools and equipment; and other related activities with a backhoe or front-end loader. Documents and communicates any discrepancies or concerns to supervisor(s). Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education, Certification and Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent AND one (1) year of heavy equipment and large vehicle operation OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Arizona State Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Heavy Equipment including backhoes, bob-tails, front-end loaders, and hydraulic excavators. Spanish language fluency.
