Equipment Operator – Water Department

Responsibilities: Receives general supervision from the Public Works Director, Utilities Superintendent, Water Supervisor, Wastewater Supervisor, or designee. Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment associated with the care, maintenance, and upkeep of City roads, streets, lots, parks, and other areas; transports, loads, and unloads other vehicles equipment, supplies, and materials. Levels, grades, and shapes roads, lots, and other areas. Loads dirt, concrete, gravel, trees, shrubs, and other materials into vehicles. Assists in construction, maintenance, and other projects. Operates compactors, concrete mixers, pneumatic hammers, and air compressors. Operates construction or power equipment, including backhoes, front-end loaders, and hydraulic excavators. Works with and assists line crews with digging ditches and trenches; hoisting material, tools, and equipment; and other related activities. Assist in road maintenance, patch-potholes, and road failures with appropriate material, clear trees, brush and vegetation, mow right-of-way, maintain ditches/culverts, and other maintenance functions as needed. Load and unload heavy material from vehicles; moves equipment and large bulky objects. Performs general maintenance and repairs of vehicles and equipment. Works with and assists water crews with the repair and maintenance of water mains, valves, services, meters, fire hydrants, and other water supply. Assist in maintenance of sewer lines. Ensures safety rules and regulations are followed. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education, Certifications and Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent AND one (1) year of heavy equipment operation OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Arizona State Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Heavy Equipment including backhoes, bob-tails, front-end loaders, and hydraulic excavators. Spanish language fluency.
